Early Morning Wreck Sends One To Shock Trauma

At 5:54 a.m. the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department was alerted for Rescue Alarm 12-15 for a Vehicle Collision reported to be Serious. First arriving on scene, Paramedic 127, advised they had a tractor trailer vs. a mobile crane in the intersection of Progress Way and Rt. 32. They quickly evaluated the scene and advised they had the driver of the tractor trailer trapped and unconscious. They Immediately started MSP Aviation Command to utilize their Medivac services for faster transport to a trauma center. RS12 arrived on the scene and quickly started deploying the hurst extrication equipment and began working on extricating the patient. E124 arrived and assisted with the extrication process. A second transport unit was requested to evaluate the driver of the crane but medical services were not need. Once the patient was extricated from the cab of the truck, he was moved to the medic unit until the medivac arrived. The Patient was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for further care. units remained on scene for a little while longer cleaning up the scene of tools and material used. MSP was on scene is investigating the crash. the road was temporarily shut down for the investigation, clean up, and removal of the two trucks. Station 12 Units returned to quarters in service about an hour later.
