Shortly after 5 a.m. on Wednesday 11/15, Sykesville’s Engine 124, Tower 12 and Medic 128 responded to assist Gamber & Community Fire Company on the house fire in the 3900 block of Robin Hood Way.

Crews encountered fire in the basement and made access to attack the flames. The fire was knocked down in less than 30 minutes. At one point, a “Mayday” call was initiated by a member of Tower 12’s crew after he fell through the first floor, which had been compromised by the fire in the basement. He was able to quickly extricate himself with the assistance of his fellow crew, and was not injured.

The occupants of the home were able to get out safely. The Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. A total of 10 Sykesville volunteers responded to the fire, along with Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS of Maryland staffing out of Station 12.

The incident is another example of how the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department relies on its volunteers to carry out its mission of protecting the community.
