At approximately 5:35 p.m. on Friday, November 1, Sykesville and mutual aid units were alerted for a possible house fire in the 300 block of Hoods Mill Road.

Arriving units found a large combine on fire in the middle of a field, with a small brush fire spreading out from it.

Crews quickly went to work attacking the fire, which was brought under control in about 15 minutes.

The combine was not in operation at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries.

Approximately 10 Sykesville volunteers responded to the scene along with Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS of Maryland career staff from Station 12.

In addition, mutual aid units from Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department, West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, Lisbon Volunteer Fire Company and Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services assisted on the call.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire.
