On Monday, January 6, at approximately 12:15 p.m., Medic 127, Utility 12 and Rescue Squad 12 responded for the report of an injured person off of Macbeth Way in the area of Saddle Drive.

Arriving units found a teenaged male at the bottom of a hill who was apparently hurt while sled riding with friends.

Chief 12 arrived on the scene and requested the crew of Rescue Squad 12 to prepare a rope and rigging system to bring the injured patient up to the road.

Using the chief's vehicle as an anchor point, the rigging system was established while patient care was taking place. The patient was placed on a backboard, then on a skid and, using the ropes system, was brought to the road, where they were placed in the medic unit and transported to Carroll Hospital Center.

Nine Sykesville volunteers responded on the call, along with on-duty Carroll County Department of Fire and Rescue Services career staff from Station 12.

As the area experiences its first significant snowfall in recent years, the SFDFD would like to remind everyone to please enjoy the weather safely.
