SFDFD Fire Prevention Division
The Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department's Fire Prevention Division is led by Lieutenant Christine Flanagan. This award-winning, aggressive outreach program is directed at the area's youth and adults alike to spread the message of fire prevention and safety. Preschool Children: Students view a wonderful fire safety Sesame Street Fire Safety program to show the children how to be "Fire Safe" thru the use of puppets and “get low and go” stand that the children practice crawling under pretend smoke. (Puppet show is for groups of 20 and larger). Students also receive a tour of the fire house and the fire engine and ambulance and the equipment we use. School Age Children/Home School Children: This age group gets to see above program and also receives more in-depth instruction on fire prevention subjects such as get low and go, exit drills in the home, 911 and other safety topics. We show the children the actual fire gear worn by the firefighters. Senior Fire/Injury Prevention: This is a program where we travel to Senior living facilities to help seniors to become more aware of fire safety and injury prevention in their environment. Girl Scout and Boy Scout Program: The department is available to host a program to assist troops to obtain first aid and safety badges. If you have any questions, or would like to arrange a fire prevention program and tour, please leave a message for Lt. Flanagan at 410-795-9311, leave message in fire prevention mail box, or e-mail her at cflanagan@sykesvillefire. |
