Just after 5pm on 4/21 your Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department was alerted for a outside gas leak.

Engine 123 and Chief 12 responded. Upon arrival units found a 120 gallon propane tank with a broken valve that was actively leaking. Chief 12 assumed command and called for the hazmat unit and Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE).

Once on scene crews decided that the best and safest option would be to burn the gas off. The burn off took approximately 1 hour to complete. Crews were on scene for approximately 3.5 hours before returning.

Thank you to the West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department’s Engine 31 for covering Station 12 while our crews were operating.
